Two Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt

twowaystreetcoverJordan broke up with his high school girlfriend when he fell in love with a girl on MySpace (published in 2007 this title finds itself already dated).  Courtney, his ex, is understandably upset.  And yet, they find themselves driving cross country for their college orientation.

This duel perspective contemporary novel is by no means reinventing the wheel but it is a tale of a former couple who genuinely cared for one another, and still do.  There are plot points that aren’t as sneaky as they might wish themselves to be but the dialogue allows the narrative to move swiftly with the occasional bite.  At its core it is a road trip that forces two oppositional forces into the confines of a car and let’s the conflict take care of the rest…

While it’s light on character development and issues, it is a fun ride.

Genre: Contemporary

Topic/s: light romance, family, road trip, teen relationships
